13% loss of solar power in China due to air pollution

According to a new analysis by foreign media, if China can clear up the "hazy" sky, it will increase the installed capacity of domestic large-scale solar panel power generation by 13%, and bring billions of dollars in additional revenue. Bart sweets of the Federal Institute of technology in Zurich, Switzerland, obtained the solar radiation data from 119 observation stations around China between 1960 and 2015, and combined it with the emission data of sulfur dioxide and carbon black to investigate how much the maximum output of solar panels was reduced by human-made aerosols. The research was published in the journal Nature energy. In the 55 years, Switz and his colleagues found that air pollution reduced potential solar power generation by about 13%.

At present, looking at the world, China has more solar power installed capacity than any other country. At the beginning of this year, a Chinese photovoltaic industry organization said that the installed capacity of new solar power generation in China in 2018 was about 43 gigawatts (GW), down 18% year on year. However, the China Photovoltaic Industry Association (CPIA) said that by the end of 2018, the installed capacity of the new generation of photovoltaic power generation in China had exceeded 170 gigawatts. But at the same time, China is also one of the countries with serious air pollution problems in the world.
In recent years, the Chinese government has begun to deal with air pollution and achieved corresponding results. In September 2013, the State Council released the action plan for air pollution prevention and control, proposing to improve the air quality of the country in the next five years. By the end of 2017, China had achieved almost all the main goals of the action plan.
Now,we know that this kind of air pollution control will bring great economic benefits: because a clear sky can improve the power generation potential of solar panels.
